Privacy Policy
Last Updated: October 2026
This Privacy Policy governs the collection, use, and disclosure of information by "PDF Reader - Scan & Convert" (referred to as "we," "our," "us," or "the App").
We recognize that your documents, photos, and personal information are sensitive. We are committed to transparency and upholding your privacy rights. Please read this Privacy Policy carefully to understand our practices regarding your data.
1. Document and Media Privacy (Local Processing)
The primary function of this App is to view, scan, convert, edit, and compress documents and images. We adhere to a strict principle of data minimization:
- Local On-Device Processing: All core features — including document viewing, camera scanning, perspective cropping, filter adjustments, image-to-PDF conversion, PDF-to-image conversion, long-image stitching, text editing, and PDF compression — are executed entirely on your local device.
- No File Harvesting or Monitoring: We do not read, view, collect, archive, or sell the content of your files, scanned documents, or photo albums. We cannot access any document or image that you do not intentionally open or import in the App.
- Document Conversion Safety: When processing documents, your files are never retained or transferred to external servers for profiling. If temporary server-assisted rendering is required for complex Office formats (such as Word or PowerPoint files), documents are transmitted solely via encrypted HTTPS channels, processed temporarily in volatile memory, and permanently deleted immediately after conversion.
2. Information We Collect Automatically
When you download, install, and use the App, we and our authorized third-party service partners may automatically collect certain non-personally identifiable technical and diagnostic data:
- Device and Hardware Information: Device manufacturer, hardware model, operating system version, CPU architecture, screen resolution, language settings, and telecommunication carrier.
- Pseudonymous Identifiers: Google Advertising ID (GAID), Android ID, and app instance identifiers. These identifiers are used solely to control ad frequency, attribute marketing campaigns, and prevent fraud.
- Usage and Log Data: Feature usage frequency, file conversion success or failure events, app launch timestamps, and error/crash reports (ANR logs) to help us diagnose technical issues.
- Approximate Location: Coarse geographic location (such as country or city level) estimated from your device IP address. We do not track or collect precise GPS coordinates.
3. Information You Voluntarily Provide
- Customer Support and Feedback: If you submit an inquiry or report an issue through the in-app Feedback module, we collect the problem description you write and your contact email address (if provided). This information is used strictly to respond to your inquiry and resolve technical issues.
4. Device Permissions We Request
To enable core features, the App may request access to certain system permissions. You maintain full control over these permissions and may enable or revoke them at any time in your device's System Settings:
- Camera (CAMERA): Required solely when you use the "Scan to PDF" camera scanner to take pictures of paper documents.
- Photos and Media Access (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES / Storage): Required to browse, select, import, and convert photos or existing documents stored on your phone, and to save newly generated PDFs to your local storage.
- Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Optional. Used to alert you when file processing or conversion tasks are complete, or to inform you of important feature updates.
5. Third-Party Services and Advertising
To provide our services for free, the App integrates industry-standard third-party Software Development Kits (SDKs) for advertising, analytics, and performance monitoring:
- Advertising Partners: We display advertisements through Google AdMob, Meta Audience Network, and TopOn Mediation. These networks may process your advertising ID and coarse location to serve contextual or interest-based ads.
- Analytics and Attribution Partners: We use Adjust and Google Firebase Analytics to analyze aggregate user trends, measure advertising campaign performance, and monitor app stability.
- Consent Management: We utilize Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) to obtain and manage user consent for personalized advertising in jurisdictions where required by law (such as the European Economic Area and the UK).
6. How We Use the Collected Information
The technical and diagnostic data we collect is used strictly for legitimate business and operational purposes:
- To operate, deliver, and maintain the App and its features.
- To detect, diagnose, and resolve technical bugs, crashes, and software defects.
- To serve advertisements that support the free operation of the App.
- To measure marketing campaign effectiveness and prevent click fraud or unauthorized use.
- To respond to user inquiries and feedback.
7. Data Security and Retention
- Document Security: We do not retain or store your personal files, scanned images, or generated PDFs on any external database. All files remain securely on your physical device.
- Technical Data Retention: Analytics and diagnostic data collected by our third-party SDK partners are retained only as long as necessary to fulfill statistical analysis (typically from 30 days up to 14 months) and are thereafter anonymized or deleted.
- Security Measures: We employ standard technical safeguards, including HTTPS/TLS encryption for all network communication, to protect transmission data from unauthorized interception or access.
8. Your Privacy Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have specific rights regarding your personal information:
- Opt Out of Personalized Advertising: You can opt out of interest-based ads or reset your advertising identifier at any time on your Android device by going to: Settings -> Google -> Ads -> "Reset advertising ID" or "Delete advertising ID".
- Manage Permissions: You can review and withdraw Camera, Media, or Notification permissions at any time via: Settings -> Apps -> PDF Reader - Scan & Convert -> Permissions.
- European Privacy Rights (GDPR): Users in the EEA and UK have the right to request access to, rectification of, or deletion of personal data processed by our third-party partners, and may withdraw their consent at any time.
- California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA): We do not sell your personal information for monetary consideration. We do not disclose personal documents or photos to third parties.
9. Children's Privacy
The App is designed for general business and productivity purposes and is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately, and we will promptly delete such records.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our technical practices, legal requirements, or App updates. Any revisions will become effective immediately upon posting the updated policy, indicated by the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. Continued use of the App following any update indicates your acceptance of the revised terms.
11. Contact Us
